Jesse, Jesse...
Mr.
Jackson makes a fool out of himself, again.
Jesse,
Jesse, Jesse…Jesse, Jesse, Jesse…Jesse, Jesse… It's almost as comical as that
"Jerry" Budweiser commercial. Jesse Jackson told many
news organizations that the Taliban had called him. According to the reverend,
the Taliban ambassador in Pakistan, Abdul Salam Zaeefand left him
a message on his machine. Zaeefand said that there was not such conversation.
Why should we believe either one of these "religious"
leaders?
The
question here is why did the Rainbow Coalition leader offered himself go
to Afghanistan on behalf of the United States government to negotiate
a peaceful solution to this international problem. The Bush administration
was outraged by Mr. Jackson's intent. It is really interesting to see that
the "all knowing Jackson", did not know about the Logan Act.
Just
to refresh your mind and Jesse's as well, the United States made an effort
to end extortion payments to Barbary Coast pirates during the early 1800's.
Tripoli declared war against the United States. It was then bombarded
and blockaded because they would not allow American ships safe passage
through the Mediterranean. An overland attack was made in 1805. In
the meantime an American millionaire by the name of Dr. George Logan decided
on his own to negotiate on behalf of president Thomas Jefferson. The problem
was that, Jefferson did not sent him to represent the country. The result
of his actions was that of treason. Jackson
said he had informed US Secretary of State Colin Powell and national security
adviser Condoleezza Rice. Powell told Jackson that he would probably
solve nothing. "He is free to go" but "I don't know what purpose
would be served right now, since the position of the United States and the international
community is quite clear." The
Logan Act simply states that only the President of the United States
or someone the president has appointed can negotiate matters of state. President
Bush's policy is that it will not negotiate with terrorists, period. So
why is Jackson rearing his head upon this? There
are many reasons why he would want to do this. All of them would self serve him
first and then the country (if at all). Jesse has not been appointed to
do anything and he is not an elected official either. He is the leader and poster
child of many questionable organizations. Either way he gives high visibility
no matter how silly he may look. The
bottom line is; why do we even care what Mr. Jackson does? I guess, I am
as guilty as the rest of the media. He is like the taxes that every year seem
to creep on us each year. Amusingly
enough, I cannot help to laugh now when I see the Budweiser commercial.
I now dubbed "Jerry" with Jesse, Jesse, Jesse... If only it
was him on the beer ad!
It would be even funnier!
