New York City
-- It's really hard to Imagine a world without
John Lennon. The Liverpool native who was
murdered 20 years ago this month will be remembered on December 8, 2000 throughout
the world. On
December 21st 1980, The
Reporter Newspaper asked their readers if
they thought Lennon will be remembered 20
years from now. The aforementioned newspaper is no longer in existence and yet
the memory of the former Beatle lives on, and perhaps stronger than ever.
In mid November 2000, Apple Records released
the Beatles 1. a collection of all the Beatles
no. 1 hits. At press time this album is at such a record pace that will likely
dethrone The Eagles Greatest Hits Vol 2 as the fastest selling album in
history. The memory of John lives on through
his music, and his actions. Can
you really fathom the thought of John Lennon to have
never existed? Imagine this: No Beatles, at all
No Hard Days Night No Sgt Peppers No Day in the Life No Abbey
Road No Strawberry Fields Forever No Instant Karma No Give
Peace a Chance No Beautiful Boy No Jealous Guy No Dear Yoko
No Watching the Wheels For a whole generation, their voice was silenced
the evening of December 8th, 1980. Their Working Man's
Hero had been taken away by Mark David Chapman, a supposed fan.
Our
lives have been tarnished with the news of another fallen hero. Like Kennedy,
and Martin Luther King before him, he had to pay the ultimate price. The
payoff is that of immortality. People seem to always remember "Where
they were" when something important happens. This month as we remember
the death of John Lennon, we should also thank
him for his many contributions into our lives. Strawberry
Fields Forever… |
